Cityscapes + Portraits Draft 1
Cityscapes + Portraits
For this project I was tasked with the job of mimicking the photographic style of professional photographer Jasper James. His work combines Cityscape photography with portraits, he does this through edited them and combining the two in Photoshop. The way the pictures are ordered below is the order that they were created in, so naturally there should be some difference in look between the first and last pictures. At first I found Photoshop hard to work with and I was struggling to edit the pictures well and efficiently, however I now feel that I have a pretty good grasp on how to edit them, as seen in the bottom pictures. My method is to combine the two chosen pictures, then create the outline of the head and edit the base picture (the cityscape) to increase the saturation and color where the head goes and to decrease it everywhere else. After this I add the portrait in and lightly blur everywhere except for where the head goes, this makes so that you view the city though the face of the subject.
Jack these images are very good! I think the hardest part for this type of layering is erasing around the subject. Maybe if you put the subject in a whiter sky then the erasing will not be as visible. Keep up the good work, Jack!
ReplyDeleteHey Jack! These photos are super sick. I like the ones where the subject takes up a lot of room in the frame and I think they're the most successful. I think David gave you good advice too ^ and I think it'll make your images look even more similar to your artists. Great work!
ReplyDeletei like these photos so far. but i think lining up building and faces strategically would make the series even stronger (i.e. creating a balance in the photograph by having a building one one side and a face on the other, or other things like that)
ReplyDeleteGreat work with the colors of the cityscapes, I like how the sky is brighter than the buildings. The portraits also add emotion to the otherwise ambiguous photos. One suggestion I have is doing a little bit of cropping of the sections of the portrait layer that overflow onto the white frame to make it look more seamless.
ReplyDeleteGood job on this set Jack they are great. I really enjoy the photo with Owen in front of the city. This photo is a great portrait and I really like how you added color to his face. I also think you did a great job layering the face onto the city and not have the face take up the entire screen. You did a great job with these cityscape portraits
ReplyDeleteI really like all of these photos and it is really easy to see your improvement with photoshop in the photos. You are off to a good start.
ReplyDeletejack these are really cool and the editing is really good i only wonder if you could blur or edit the rest of the picture like jasper james does.
ReplyDeleteI think you did a really good job at taking these photos are trying to copy your artist's style. The first photo looks really cool and turned out vert well because the layering editing is done so well.
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job emulating your artists style and you were really creative with the photoshop. Really great job this week!
